This actually means (. Hot dal rice) in Kannada. This is a super nutritious rice filled with goodness of veggies, dal, rice , spices and ghee.
Ingredients :
- 2 cup mixes veggies chopped into chunks like for sambhar ( brinjal, red pumpkin, white pumpkin, peas, potato) do not use carrots
- 2 cups rice
- 1 cup tur dal
- 1 big lemon size tamarind with juice extracted
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds
- Few sprigs of curry leaves
- To roast and grind d to paste
- 4 tbsp channa dal
- 3 tbsp dhaniya seeds
- 12/15 dry red chilly ( mine is a non Spicy variety but gives great colour so pleas add according to your taste + 2 green chilly)
- 1 tsp methi seeds
- 1 .5 inch piece of cinnamon
- 3 tbsp coconut fresh
- Oil to roast
How to make:
- In a pan first add oil and roast all ingredients listed u see paste except coconut.once light brown remove cool and grind with the coconut. Add little water and make a coarse paste
- Wash and cut all the veggies and add half the amount of tamarind water and salt and boil till cooked
- In a cooker combine the rice and dal and add 6-7 cups of water and let it cook for 4-5 whistles. We need it a big mushy
- Once the veggies are cooked add the ground d paste the rice and dal mixture , curry leaves , remaining tamarind juice and bring it to a float khichadi consistency.
- Let this boil a bit
- In a tadka pan add ghee and mustard seeds and pour over bisi bele baath
- Serve as is or with a side of raita .
