This is a gluten free idli recipe made with moong dal or split yellow moong dal.
Ingredients :
For Idli Batter:
- 1 cup yellow split moong dal
- 1 cup urad dal
- For tempering:
- 1-2 tsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seed
- 1 tbsp chopped curry leaves
- 2 tbsp chopped cashews
- Freshly pounded or chopped green chili and ginger
- Salt to taste
How to make:
- Soak moong dal and urad dal separately for 4/5 hours. Drain and grind into a smooth fluffy batter . Add less water while grinding and grind both dals separately. Mix both and add salt and ferment overnight or 7/8 hours.
- For the tempering. Add oil in a pan. Let mustard seeds splutter. Then add cashew. Roast. Add the ginger chili paste and turmeric.
- Add this to fermented batter. Mix well.
- Steam in Idli molds.
- Serve hot with chutney of your choice and sambar.
