Yellow Moong Dal Idli

This is a gluten free idli recipe made with moong dal or split yellow moong dal.

Ingredients :

For Idli Batter:

  • 1 cup yellow split moong dal
  • 1 cup urad dal
  • For tempering:
  • 1-2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seed
  • 1 tbsp chopped curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp chopped cashews
  • Freshly pounded or chopped green chili and ginger
  • Salt to taste

How to make:

  1. Soak moong dal and urad dal separately for 4/5 hours. Drain and grind into a smooth fluffy batter . Add less water while grinding and grind both dals separately. Mix both and add salt and ferment overnight or 7/8 hours.
  2. For the tempering. Add oil in a pan. Let mustard seeds splutter. Then add cashew. Roast. Add the ginger chili paste and turmeric.
  3. Add this to fermented batter. Mix well.
  4. Steam in Idli molds.
  5. Serve hot with chutney of your choice and sambar.
