Ridge gourd kootu

Ingredients :

  • 2 or 3 ridge gourd
  • 2 green chilly
  • 1/2 cup fresh coconut
  • 2 tsp jeera
  • 1 cup moong dal cooked
  • Hing 1/2 tsp
  • 1 tbsp urad dal
  • Salt

For tempering

  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

How to make:

  1. Peel and cut the gourd into small pieces
  2. Boil in water with a little salt till almost done
  3. Add the cooked moong dal to it and pinch of asafoetida and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Roast 1 tbsp urad dal in 1/2 tsp oil till brown
  5. Grind together the roasted urad dal, coconut, jeera, green chilly with little water into a smooth paste.
  6. Add this to the moong dal and veggie and boil. Add water if necessary. Consistency has to be like sambhar
  7. Heat a tsp of oil . Add the mustard seeds and urad dal. Pour over the kootu
  8. Yummy and simple kootu ready to eat with rice.
