Sattu Chutney

This is a very unique chutney from the south of India. It’s a chutney served warm and has no coconut in it like the staple chutney.

Usually made with gram flour/ besan I have substituted with sattu flour for nutrition purposes.

Ingredients :

  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger Finely chopped
  • 2/3 green chili finely chopped
  • 3-4 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp hing
  • 3 tsp besan/ gram flour/ sattu flour( add 2.5 cups and water and make a lump free slurry)
  • Salt
  • Oil

How to make:

  1. In a pan add oil
  2. To this add mustard seeds, urad dal and hing
  3. Add onion and sauté till translucent
  4. Then add the ginger, green chili and tomatoes.
  5. Sauté till done.
  6. Add the sattu slurry and salt and turmeric.
  7. Keep stirring till it comes to a boil
  8. Add the coriander and mix well
  9. Remove from flame and serve warm with dosa, Roti or idli
